Augme Technologies and Mobile Marketing
You’re probably not chewing on your mobile phone, but David Apple, CMO at Augme Technologies, does it regularly as he watches poorly executed mobile marketing campaigns and ineffective uses of mobile technology.
But he stops teething when you talk with him about integrated QR codes, SMS and mobile Web launches. Talking about Augme Mobile Health for pharmaceutical and other health companies also calms David down.
In my interview, I discovered he’s an outspoken critic of an industry where mobile apps are considered God-Like, despite the vast majority of people who like feature phones and respond positively to SMS marketing messages and QR codes.
Disparate Technologies: a Mobile World Gone Mad?
Despite different mobile operating systems hindering industry growth, mobile is growing exponentially faster than the Internet during the mid-to-late 90′s.
But the pressure to “do mobile,” according to David, has frequently caused mobile campaigns to backfire and not generate high ROI. Marketers and brands create and launch mobile apps, despite their high cost, long development cycles and a glutted market. Trying less costly SMS marketing, QR codes and optimized mobile websites is a better alternative to reach the majority of consumers with feature phones.
Augme, for example, helped Constellation Wines, a global distributor of wines, excite consumers about wine via QR codes and SMS messaging, producing an 1800 to 2000% increase in barcode scanning. That’s consumer engagement.
Augme Mobile Health
Health care is the fastest growing segment of Augme’s business. The company became HIPAA compliant early-on to assure large pharmaceutical and health care companies about following Federal guidelines on the distribution of health information.
This enables Augme to mobilize large health database information for use by physicians, pharmaceutical representatives and consumers on multiple devices.
Augme Mobile Health is pursuing a high-growth industry that’s seeking methods to disperse medical information to multiple mobile devices.
